Smart online security
Are you safe when you go online? Are you sure? We wanted to be, especially after changing from a dial-up to wireless satellite ISP. So, we installed what the new ISP and my PC security magazines recommeded - Zone Labs' ZoneAlarm.
To begin with, I opted for the free ZoneAlarm Version 3. It's as simple as going to the Zone Labs website. You just answer a few brief questions and are directed to the download area. However, I took it one step further and chose the Managed Download option. The price is only $5.95 ppd. and includes a CD containing not only the free version of ZoneAlarm but also an electronic user guide and a 3-month trial version of other Zone Labs products.
ZoneAlarm Pro sells for $49.95 and contains quite a few more features then it's FREE cousin. But, it's well worth the price. I do recommend that you try the free version first.
Specs
- Runs under Win9x/ME/NT, Win2000 and WinXP
- 3.69MB download & 3.67MB final size
- Easy to install & configure
- Provides up-to-the-minute information on threats to your PCs security
- Freeware & Registered versions
Verdict
For most users, it's a set and forget with the preferences. Once it alerts you to your browser, e-mail program, anti-virus program, etc., ZoneAlarm will remember those by you simply checking a box. If you go on the Internet, you need this utility.
